How does our sense of smell affect the experience at Tops Hair Salon?

Everyone has a different preference of smell. How do we please as many people with something so subjective?

The 5 Senses of Beauty - Smell

Last blog, we discussed the 1st of 5 senses of beauty, Touch. We know that incorporating as many of these senses creates a longer lasting impression. This time lets move on to another one the senses that affect our industry majorly, Smell.

Smell

Have you ever bought Shampoo, Conditioner, Styling Products, or Skincare just because of the fragrance? Or at least thought about buying it? If you answered yes, you are not alone. Most of our guests at Tops Hair Salon that are sitting in the chair/shampoo bowl ask or comment on the scent of the products that we are using. When they comment on it, 9 out of 10 times they like or love the scent, and are willing buy if the product also performs.

Don't assume

Smell is one of those things that are relative to the person. Some might find the scent pleasant, while others might find it offensive. There are many reasons why salons typically carry more than 1 line of products. If you don't like the scent of a hairspray from one brand, we can offer another hairspray from a different brand with a different fragrance. Performance and weight also differs between brands. Just because we like the scent ofour products, we don't assume that others will love the same scent. We will always make sure to be communicating with our guests.

Improvements in fragrance

At Tops Hair Salon, we are always looking for the best products we can offer. As a haircolor specializing salon, we use a color line that does not use ammonia as the alkaline source, hence it improves the scent of the chemicals. This becomes a much more pleasant experience for both the stylist and guest. Of course the scent doesn't affect the final result, but it makes a difference when trying to hit all 5 senses to make that lasting impression. Perms, Straightening, Keratin treatments, also may have had some improvements in scent, but has nothing major in the recent years. Maybe someday soon.

What can we do to elevate your experience in the salon/spa targeting the Smell??

With much love,

Ty Isobe
